arrow  Secretary Rice Highlights Global Partnership with China (2008-07-02) Progress toward peace on the Korean Peninsula may have dominated the headlines, but Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s wide-ranging agenda in Beijing reflects the complexity and importance of today’s U.S.-China relationship. “We have our differences. But those differences have not obscured a very important fact. And that very important fact is that the United States and China simply must work together if we are going to resolve the many challenges that we face in the international community.” For more information consult our dossier on China

arrow  Six-Party Talks Setting Stage for New Diplomacy in Northeast Asia (2008-07-02)  The diplomatic process behind North Korea’s abandonment of its nuclear arsenal could lead to a new era of peace and stability for the region, says America’s top diplomat for East Asia and the Pacific. “The Six-Party process is not only beginning to show some results in the issue of denuclearization; we're also showing results in the issue of bringing the countries closer together,” Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said in a July 1 appearance at Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies. arrow  Statement by President Bush on G8 Summit (2008-07-02) At recent summits, G8 countries have made pledges to help developing nations address challenges, from health care to education, to corruption. Now we need to show the world that the G8 can be accountable for its promises and deliver results. As I said the other day, we need people who not only make promises, but write checks, for the sake of human rights and human dignity, and for the sake of peace

arrow  Briefing by USAID Official on Mission Activities in Iraq (2008-07-01)
I’ve been with USAID for 26 years. Prior to Iraq, I served in countries such as the Congo, India, Ghana, Belize, Albania, Uganda, Ukraine and Colombia. I don’t go to the easy spots. What I do like is going to places where we make a difference. I’ve been in Iraq since August 2007 and have traveled to 14 of our PRTs and embedded PRTs in Iraq. And each trip has reaffirmed my knowledge that our team is implementing one of the most dynamic, challenging, and fulfilling programs in USAID. For more information consult our dossier on Iraq

arrow  U.S., Russian Spacefaring Strength Aids Space Station Success (2008-06-30) Since the first segment of the International Space Station -- the Zarya functional cargo block -- was placed in orbit in 1998, the United States and Russia have used their strengths as spacefaring nations to blaze a technological trail for the rest of the international partners. The FGB -- the Russian acronym for functional cargo block -- has a Russian name that means “dawn,” signifying the dawn of a new age of space cooperation, and the segment was a joint effort from the beginning.
