    Established 32 years ago, the Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Washington, DC. The Project has been quite successful over the past few decades due to its commitment to providing a broad range of perspectives on the Middle East not generally found in some of the mainstream media and press coverage. While the organization's primary publication, the Middle East Report, is not available for free on the site (although some of its editorial pieces are), visitors will want to take a close look at the Middle East Report Online, which is available here.

  • Middle East Program at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

    The Middle East Program was launched in February 1998, in light of the importance of the region to the United States and the profound changes the states in the region are experiencing. The Program is part of the Division of International Studies at the Center.

    The Middle East Program activities focus on three domains:

    • current affairs;

    • Islam, democracy and civil society; and

    • issues relating to women’s rights.

  • United States Institute of Peace Special Initiative on the Muslim World.

    From Mali to Mindanao, the impact of turmoil and conflict in the Muslim world has far-reaching repercussions on international security and the global economy. As the United States and its allies continue their campaign against terrorism, it is key that long-term nonviolent options for preventing and combating international terrorism be made available to policymakers in the United States and beyond. To address these challenges and the range of political, social, economic, and religious issues that have come to light in the wake of September 11, the United States Institute of Peace has established the Special Initiative on the Muslim World.

  • Washington Institute for Near East Policy

Through a comprehensive program of research, seminars, conferences, publications, and study tours to the Middle East, The Washington Institute provides policymakers, diplomats, and journalists with fresh thinking and new ideas to promote peace, security, and stability in one of the world's most volatile regions.
